5 Ways You Can Add "Something Blue" to Your Wedding Attire

The History

The next line of this old saying actually hints at its origin. The complete phrase is:
Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.
Blue has been connected to weddings for centuries. In ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so purity was associated with the color. Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like, "Marry in blue, lover be true."

Today, the "something blue" has been modernized by Brides and Grooms and you can incorporate blue in more ways than one. Here are 5 ways to add your "something blue" to your wedding day traditions:

Shoes: Who doesn't love fun shoes?

Accessories: A traditional way that most brides often think about adding that "something blue" into their attire or on themselves. Jewlery, garters, nail polish and more!

Reception Decor: Pull in some blue through table runners, votives or even flowers...

Cakes: Here are a few fun ways to add some flair and color to whatever your style of wedding cake. You can dress up a casual design with a pop of royal blue, add a hint of electric blue to your modern cake or even a silk blue ribbon for a small notion of vintage design on your glamorous cake.

Dress: What a great and simple way to add something blue to your dress or your dress pictures?
