Music For Cake Cutting

Memories Made With Music-

The tradition of cake cutting has been said to be dated all the way back to the Roman Empire. The first traditions appeared in Ancient Rome when bread was broken over the bride's head to bring good fortune to newly married couple. It has even been said that in Medieval England cakes were stacked as high as possible for the bride and groom to kiss over. If the bride and groom were successful in kissing over the stack of cakes they were guaranteed a prosperous life together. Fortunately, over time those traditions have been lost and a new ones have become accustomed. Today, instead of breaking bread over the brides head or stacking cakes high, the tradition is celebrated as the cake cutting ceremony.

Today's significance of the cake cutting ceremony is symbolic as the the first task the newlyweds will execute together.  The groom will then feed the first bite to the bride, and the bride will feed to first bite to the groom. This signifies the commitment that the bride and groom will provide for one another.

What better way to remember this first task completed as newlyweds than to execute it during a song. The song not only sets the tone and mood for your cake cutting ceremony but creates a long lasting memory. Most brides and grooms choose to play a song during the cake cutting and the variety of songs chosen is huge.

Here are just a few of the most popular songs played during cake cutting:

Romantic and Sentimental:
-How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) By James Taylor
-Sugar, Sugar By The Archies
-I'm Your's By Jason Mraz
-Happy Together By The Turtle

Some couple prefer to pick songs that have a little more humor and express their personalities.

Funny and Humorous:
-Hit Me With Your Best Shot By Pat Benatar
-Pour Some Sugar On Me By Def Leopard
-Hungry Heart By Bruce Springstein
-Eat It By Weird Al Yankovic

On the other hand, some couples like to stray away from the traditional romantic cake cutting music and put and upbeat mood to the ceremony.

Upbeat Favorites:
-Going To The Chapel By Dixie Cups
-It Had To Be You By Frank Sinatra
-Everlasting Love By Natalie Cole

From your wedding ceremony and all the days forward, every time you hear that special song it will take you back to moment you and your husband shared as newlyweds cutting your cake. Now it is up to you to choose what song you want to have tied to those memories.

Do you want to remember cutting your cake to How Sweet It Is, or Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Pour Some Sugar On Me?
